Thanks to the vision of former President Jordan and a highly-regarded team of industry advisors, MSU Denver has embarked on an ambitious and forward-looking program in the field of advanced manufacturing sciences.

Our new program is designed to educate the next generation of manufacturing professionals who will be in high-demand by our regional and statewide manufacturing companies, as well as by manufacturers nationally and internationally. In addition, AMSI will work collaboratively with specific manufacturers in a variety of industry sectors, such as the aviation, aerospace, energy, communications and bio-medical sectors, to name just a few.

Our mission at the Institute is to expose our students and community innovators to advanced additive and precision machine tools that are driving advanced manufacturing in the U.S. and around the world. Furthermore, students in our Advanced Manufacturing Sciences (AMS) Bachelor of Science degree program, in addition to developing technical skills, such as machine tool programming and product design, will also develop “soft” skills in areas such as critical thinking, problem solving and communication, which represent a skill set that’s much in demand by our industry partners. Also, all of our AMS degree students will be exposed to the critical issue of cyber-security, as it relates to advanced manufacturing.

Working in multi-disciplinary teams will also be an emphasis in the AMS degree program and we expect our industry partners will be active participants in senior design projects, for instance, as well as in new product-oriented development projects, together with our Institute staff members, faculty and students.

In an exciting time of cloud computing, rapid developments in additive manufacturing, robotics and a variety of other advanced manufacturing techniques, it is vital, with respect to U.S. manufacturing, that we produce a workforce that’ll be well-prepared to fill the professional manufacturing jobs of the future.

I invite you to explore our new Advanced Manufacturing Sciences curriculum (via the links on this page), which will take effect as of our Spring 2017 semester. Moreover, since we’d like to involve as broad a spectrum of manufacturers as possible to partner with the Advanced Manufacturing Sciences Institute, I would also invite interested parties to contact me in order to discuss ways we can collaborate and interact with your company.

Please join me in supporting AMSI in its academic and manufacturing industry-centric partnership pursuits. I look forward to working with administrators, faculty, staff and students, as well as industry and university partners, to make our program highly-regarded in Colorado and beyond, in terms of providing a pipeline of industry-ready graduates, as well as promoting development breakthroughs in the advanced manufacturing field.
