Civic Engagement & Outreach

Students participating in a service learning project. MSU Denver regularly collaborates with local organizations to solve community problems while providing our students with valuable, real-world experience. That’s what education is about— teaching you everything you need to know, connecting you to the right people and experiences, and showing you the meaning behind being connected. In the end, communities succeed when citizens collaborate and contribute to the better good.

Some ways to get involved:

The Civic Engagement Program offers educationally meaningful, extra-curricular service opportunities that positively impact the community and provide opportunities for students to develop as engaged citizens.‌  Programming includes; the Puksta Scholars, Alternative Breaks, common reading programming and Community Engagement Mini-Grants for student initiated community based projects.

Service Learning connects faculty and students with community partners for service-based learning projects related to material covered in a specific class. Students who enroll in service–learning courses help meet a community-identified need, engage in structured preparation for, participation in, and reflection on the service experience in such a way as to gain further understanding of course content.

Roadrunners Give Back offers students, faculty, and staff a wide range of volunteer opportunities to make a positive impact in the Denver community, understand social issues, and connect with other members of the MSU Denver Community. Ongoing and one time opportunities are available on the Volunteer Hub.

The Center for Urban Education builds pathways to college and career for Denver Public School students through the 21st Century College Readiness Center. Afterschool programs are staffed by MSU Denver students and MSU Denver faculty provide enrichment program support. CUE also provides summer programs on the college campus. CUE is home to other resources for metro-area students and their families.
