Woodshop Wizards is an after school enrichment program currently working in 13 Denver Public Elementary Schools. Students learn basic woodworking skills through the completion of kits that are made in the Wizards workshop in Englewood. Instructors hired will act as an assistant instructor at the outset and then will then be trained to have their own class.
Classes meet from roughly 3 pm to 4:30 pm Monday through Friday. Additional classes are taught in the Wizards classroom in Englewood during the day for home schooled students, scout troops and groups making toys for donation to various charities. Additional money can be earned by helping create and package kits during the day.
Beginning instructors need not possess woodworking skills but will be taught classroom management, resource management and curriculum development by our experienced instructors. The training coordinator is a National Master Teacher and former Metro adjunct professor of education.
$35 per class and $11 per hour for shop work.
We would like to hire pre-service teachers to work in this program as the position offers an opportunity to work with elementary age students in an informal setting. One-to-one teaching skills are emphasized as well as offering classroom management and lesson planning experience in a variety of settings.
